7 things I’d like readers to know

Different readers will find different things in a book and the author doesn’t always know best. Nevertheless, I’ve drawn up a list of seven things I’d like potential readers to know about my novel, Lyrics for the Loved Ones.

  1. The heroine is a one-hundred-year-old care-home resident.
  2. My editor lives very close to that imaginary care home.
  3. The novel is very funny … and extremely dark.
  4. I wrote it in a state of anxiety and outrage.
  5. It’s the only novel to feature the Windrush scandal.
  6. It pays homage to Jeanette Winterson’s memoir, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
  7. It draws on my Cumbrian roots.
