Different readers will find different things in a book and the author doesn’t always know best. Nevertheless, I’ve drawn up a list of seven things I’d like potential readers to know about my novel, Lyrics for the Loved Ones.
- The heroine is a one-hundred-year-old care-home resident.
- My editor lives very close to that imaginary care home.
- The novel is very funny … and extremely dark.
- I wrote it in a state of anxiety and outrage.
- It’s the only novel to feature the Windrush scandal.
- It pays homage to Jeanette Winterson’s memoir, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
- It draws on my Cumbrian roots.
